Kill Bill: Vol. 1 is on my short list of all-time favorite Tarantino movies, and Gogo Yubari is one of my favorite characters. (Based on my track record, she’s exactly the sort of woman I’d be likely to wind up dating. Briefly.) At any rate, it’s nice to report that Gog recovered from that nasty head-puncture wound and is pursuing a musical career in her native Japan. Gogo—or Chiaki Kuriyama, if you insist on living in the real world—just released the single “Ryusei no Namida,” which will be the theme for the PlayStation anime adaptation of Harutoshi Fukui’s Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn novels.

You can listen to Chiaki’s singing debut here. It’s a light, pleasant song, and it couldn’t be more inconsistent with her Gogo Yubari character. In some ways, that makes it all the more creepy. You feel like she’s just biding her time, waiting for you to drop your guard before she sends that whirling blade-ball gizmo flying in your general direction.

Well, hell. The cast of the upcoming Smurfs feature film is coming together, and it looks like the unflappable Alan Cumming (Gutsy Smurf, really?) may have just hit a speed bump on the highway of coolness. Also, there’s the further probable annoyance of Cumming’s voice sharing a screen with that of Katy Perry, according to Variety:

Jonathan Winters, George Lopez, Katy Perry and Alan Cumming are seeing blue. The foursome is in various stages of talks to lend their voices to Sony’s live-action/animated “Smurfs” movie.

The 84-year-old Winters, who voiced multiple characters on the long-running Hanna-Barbera cartoon version of “Smurfs,” will play Papa Smurf. Pop singer Perry is in talks to portray Smurfette, Alan Cumming is taking on Gutsy Smurf and George Lopez is onboard as Grouchy Smurf.

Neil Patrick Harris has already signed on as the project’s live-action character.

Oh, and about that last bit of cassting news? Essentially, joining this franchise will not only put Neil Patrick Harris back in “Doogie Howser” dorkdom, but he’ll also be lowering himself to the same sort of frantic live-action/animation miming that Jason Lee executed in Alvin and the Chipmunks. Even worse, it’s gonna be in 3-D.

For the past month or so, Trent Reznor has been back in the studio working on a post-NIN project. As is typical of Reznor, he’s started posting a series of semi-cryptic photos on NIN.com; the most recent photo, seen above, finally shows the money shot — Reznor on da mic. Also present (as “blurry guy in the background”) is Atticus Ross, who collaborated with Nine Inch Nails for Ghosts I-IV, The Slip, Year Zero, and With Teeth. One would also assume that Mariqueen Maandig Reznor is somehow involved in the new project, but she hasn’t been formally revealed thus far. One thing is certain, however, which is Reznor’s stance in the Coke-Pepsi wars:

Many online publications have mentioned that the upcoming remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street doesn’t look all that terrible. In fact, the reaction to most promotional material has been largely positive. However, it seems that I’m one of a minority who will admit that it really bothers me to hear a voice that isn’t Robert Englund’s come out of Freddy Krueger’s head. No offense to Jackey Earle Haley, but his voice just isn’t working for me. Fortunately, Jeremy Feist agrees: “I know, it just sounds like he’s playing Rorschach again.” Exactly, and, to me, only Robert Englund can be Freddy Fucking Krueger.

She’s no stranger to swanky awards show events, and earlier tonight (March 4) Rihanna was spotted arriving at the 19th Annual Echo Awards in Berlin, Germany.

The “Russian Roulette” songstress looked killer, as usual, as she posed for the paparazzi outside the Messe Berlin venue before heading inside.

Tonight, Ri-Ri will be more than just a spectator as she’s scheduled to take the stage for an explosive live performance.

German Music Industry Association rep Daniel Knoell told press, “We have international stars like Rihanna or Robbie Williams, who will perform in English, and we have artists like Peter Maffay, who will present his songs in German.”
