New installment of Ghostbusters is on the way

This was bound to happen given that new ideas are so few and far between in Hollywood, so studios are looking to remake every movie that’s ever been successful. Sony studio has recruited “The Office” writer-producers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg to work on a new installment of the 1980s franchise Ghostbusters, that starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Harold Ramis as bumbling ghost-hunting scientists. Given the time that’s passed (debuted in 1984) the stars have gotten a little long in the tooth for a sequel. But some original cast members including director Ivan Reitman, might be involved, but not in central roles in the sequel.

Stupnitsky and Eisenberg, have worked with Ramis before. The duo penned with Ramis the biblical comedy “Year One,” which is produced by Judd Apatow and directed by Ramis, and scheduled for release in 2009 by Sony.

“Ghostbusters” was Sony’s top-grossing film ever until it was surpassed by “Men in Black,” with the 1984 film grossing $292 million worldwide, and its 1989 sequel brought in another $215 million globally.
