ABC’s Men In Trees has just begun its second season, but the network is already moving it into a new timeslot beginning Friday, November 2.
Starting next week, viewers will have to tune in two hours earlier every Friday night to catch Men in Trees. The show is swapping timeslots with the network’s long-running newsmagazine, 20/20. This schedule was actually ABC’s plan for the two shows when the network made its announcements during May upfronts.
Then, in July, the network said that it would be launching the second season of Men in Trees at the 10pm timeslot, while 20/20 would air at 8pm.
Now, the network is reverting back to its original scheduling plan, most likely due to the drop in viewership Men in Trees has been experiencing in its current timeslot. The show is earning about 6.7 million viewers each week, down from 7.5 million at this time last year. Meanwhile, 20/20 is also down about the same amount.
Men in Trees’ new 8pm timeslot will pit it against NBC’s Deal or No Deal, CBS’ Ghost Whisperer and The CW’s Friday Night Smackdown!.
Along with the timeslot changes, ABC also announced the premiere dates of new and returning series.
The second season of October Road, a drama starring Bryan Greenberg (One Tree Hill, Prime) will premiere behind Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday, November 22, replacing Big Shots for that night. The show will begin airing on its regular time slot at 10pm on Monday, November 26.
As for Notes from the Underbelly, a half-hour comedy featuring Michael Weaver (Monk), the show’s second season is also set to premiere on November 26, settling into the 9:30pm slot between the Christina Applegate-led Samantha Who? and October Road.
Finally, ABC said that its new reality series, Dance War, will be filling in the Monday 8pm timeslot currently held by Dancing with the Stars when it premieres on January 7. The show is a singing-dancing competition headed by Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli.
