Although we are only two weeks away from the new season of The Bachelor, it seems interest remains high in the previous season. Brad Womack might be on the verge of being the center of The Bachelor limelight, but right now, it seems that fans of the series are still very involved in the continuing story of Andy Baldwin and Tessa Horst.
Kate Brockhouse, who was sent home from the show in Episode Four, might not be privy to any details about Andy and Tessa’s relationship now, but she did have a front row seat to the goings-on during the taping of last season. She recently blogged about the experience, and revealed her perspective on the reality that actually happened versus the reality show that eventually was edited and aired.
She writes that by the trip to Tahoe, she and some of the other girls had become uncomfortable with both Andy’s forwardness in particular, and the unreality of a reality show in general. She writes that by that point in the taping, "I was tired of listing to the producers talk to me. I was tired of pretending I remotely had interest in Andy."
During the conversation she had with Andy in Tahoe, she had made a statement to the effect that some of the girls shouldn’t trust her, a claim that appeared accurate when the episode aired and she appeared to be quite a gossip or, as she puts it herself, a "pot-stirrer." However, while she admits to speaking frankly, she believes this impression was something created in editing, and doesn’t reflect what her true intentions were.
She clarifies that her statement about trust was made in the context that she did share some things told to her to her other friends on the show. She writes, "The reason I said that is [because] Amber told me some things. Then Bevin told me some things and I was like, ‘You know, Bevin, Andy is doing the same things with Amber.’ Bevin and I were pretty close so I told her what Amber had said. I told her just to let her know she shouldn’t listen 100% to what Andy was doing. It wasn’t meant to be malicious at all."
Another moment where she was portrayed as a "pot-stirrer" came about when she told Amber Alchabi that Tina Wu was saying she had slept with Andy. Tina had thus far on the show seemed to hold herself separate from any drama in the house, so it seemed to come out of nowhere for Kate to make this statement. She says it happened - sort of - but thinks that the origin of the rumor was the production team itself.
She writes, "Tina really did come up to me and say she heard Andy ALMOST slept with Amber. When I asked her where she heard it from she wouldn’t tell me. My guess is that it was the producers stirring things up, not me. It wasn’t Tina trying to be mean either, its just what she heard. Anyway, so I told Amber. And you know the rest."
After the show, she says, "I NEVER want anything to do with Hollywood ever again. How you could make a career out of manipulating things is beyond me." Based on her experience, she feels she doesn’t have a lot of positive comments to make about Andy and the producers’ hype about him. Regarding the new Bachelor, she says, "Poor Brad. If only he knew what he was getting himself into. So, keeping in mind that since ABC built this man, he is perfect."
She doesn’t attempt to make any insight into the current relationship between Tessa and Andy, having apparently not spoken to him since the show. However, since some fans have read quite a bit into recent statements and MySpace postings by Bevin Powers, wondering if she might still have feelings for him, Kate makes it clear that is old news, saying, "Bevin is not hung up on Andy. I went to visit her a few months ago."
She also says she was contacted by one of the new women to be featured on The Bachelor. She writes, "About a month ago, I received a phone call from a girl (not saying her name) telling me she was going on The Bachelor. I talked to her many times…She was the sweetest girl I have ever talked to. She told me she was going on the show to find true love…..for real…Y’all should root for her….I’ll let you know who it is when the show starts."
We are still waiting to see the cast of women who will be vying for the heart of the new Bachelor, but, if Kate’s assessment is accurate, it sounds like at least one of them is in it for the real thing.
