After many speculations regarding Curb Your Enthusiasm’s ending after the fifth season, answers surfaced the news, bringing confirmation to the return of HBO’s comedy show on Sunday, September 9 at 9pm. During Thursday’s Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, creator and star of the show, Larry David, talked about the show and his spilt from wife Laurie.
Larry David, a 60-year-old comedian, actor, writer and producer, and wife Laurie Lennard, 49-year-old well-known eco-activist, married in 1993 and had two daughters named Cazzie and Romy. The couple announced their intention to amicably separate in June, after 14 years of marriage.
When asked about the possible subject of his joke if ever he returned to standup comedy, he comically touched the issue of his split from his wife and revealed how he entertainingly channels his despair into fruitful material.
"It would probably be about the divorce. If I was going onstage, of course I would talk about it. How could I not? I wouldn’t say it’s sick and twisted, but when something bad happens to you, if you’re a creative person you can generally use it to some degree,” David explained.
Although he never disclosed the real grounds of their separation, he revealed that his wife’s high profile stance and activism didn’t cause the break up.
"No, no, no, she’s been that way throughout. That’s nothing new," he said.
As for Curb Your Enthusiasm, which is about to air its sixth season, David explained that his continued interest on the show comes from his perception that the show is always about to conclude.
“Every season that I do is my last season — that’s the only way I can get through the season,” David said. “If I thought I had to come back and do it again, I would never do it in the first place. So the way I trick myself is to tell everybody it’s my last season. And then after it’s over, I go, ‘Oh, maybe I’ll do another one.’ ”
