During her time on The Bachelor: An Officer and a Gentleman, Tessa Horst seemed to have a recurring debate with herself as to whether or not she really wanted to be on the show. Because of her reluctance to participate in the televised competition for Andy Baldwin’s affections, some viewers wondered why she ever agreed to be on the show in the first place.
However, Tessa herself also offered up her reasoning behind joining the show during the very first episode, when she told Andy a story about how her own mother found love unexpectedly in the midst of a crisis during a trip to Peru. The story was brought full circle when, after they announced their engagement, Tessa and Andy received from ABC a trip of their own to Peru.
Now Tessa’s mom has opened up about what it was like to have her daughter be on the show, and which part of the experience was “the hardest thing [she’s] ever had to do.”
Tessa’s Mom, Romana Li, spoke recently to the local paper in her town of York, Pennsylvania. She says that she, like the rest of viewing public, wasn’t sure what the outcome would be until the show aired, and says that as she watched the finale, she “was screaming like everyone else.”
Li also says that she was proud of her daughter’s composure and restraint on the show. However, she admits that the limitations on communication with her daughter were extremely frustrating. She also says that not being able to talk about her feelings and concerns with her own friends while the show aired was so difficult that it was the “hardest thing [she’s] ever had to do.”
Since the show has aired, Li and her husband have met with Andy’s parents, who live in a neighboring town. She says the meeting went well.
There are a couple of interesting tidbits in her interview. She remarks that Andy is “madly in love with” Tessa, but any mention of Tessa’s feelings in return were either edited out or not mentioned. Also interesting – although again, this could just be the way the reporter chose to word the story – is that Tessa’s move to Hawaii, which seemed to be a given based on Tessa’s interviews directly following the finale, has been downgraded to something she is just “considering.”
